Homegrown commercial vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors, on Tuesday, announced that it will commence the delivery of Tata Prima 5530.S LNG trucks to Clean Green Fuel and Logistics Pvt. Ltd., a prominent player in the green fuel retailing and logistics sector.
According to Tata Motors, this marks a significant milestone in fulfilling an order for liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered 150 trucks. The first batch of these vehicles was handed over at a specially organised ceremony, with subsequent deliveries scheduled to take place in phases.
Suyash Gupta, Director General at Indian Auto LPG Coalition, in conversation with CNBC-TV18, said, “Tata Motors’ focus on introducing cleaner vehicles like LNG trucks is a positive step towards greener transportation solutions. We, at Indian Auto LPG Council (IAC), had recently emphasized this by urging all OEMs to develop at least one LPG variant, which has the potential to be a game-changer in the sector.”
He added, “Furthermore, the Delhi government’s initiative to offer tax incentives for private and commercial vehicles running on cleaner fuels like petrol, CNG, and LPG is commendable. The 20% and 15% discounts on motor vehicle tax for these vehicles will significantly encourage adoption, while also supporting the broader goal of reducing emissions.”
Milan Donga, Director of Clean Green Fuel and Logistics, in a company statement, said, “As a two-year-old start-up, we have made significant strides in the logistics industry and remain committed to revolutionising operations with green fuel solutions.” He also mentioned about the benefits of Tata Motors’ Fleet Edge, the company’s connected vehicle platform, which provides real-time data and analytics.
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head of trucks at Tata Motors, said, “We are delighted to deliver the first batch of Tata Prima 5530.S LNG trucks to Clean Green Fuel and Logistics Pvt. Ltd. Their mission is to make logistics greener and smarter, and we are equally committed to the goal.”
The Tata Prima 5530.S LNG truck gets its juices through a Cummins 6.7L gas engine, which generates 280 horsepower and 1100Nm of torque. As per Tata Motors, the vehicle’s cabin is designed for driver comfort, while features like Gear Shift Advisor help to optimise fuel consumption.
The Tata Prima 5530.S LNG is available with both single and dual-fuel cryogenic tank options. The dual tank option allows for a range exceeding 1000 kilometres.
